The Treaty of Irvine between Scotland and England was signed at seagate castle on the 9 th july 1297. The Earl of Carrick Robert Bruce lead the scots to Knagerhill the English camped at Tarryholme there was a stand off the outcome of which was the scots signing a surrender at seagate castle the treaty was known as the 'Capitulation of Irvine'.
